As you hit the beach this summer, you might be thinking that a beachside home would be a great place to live. For the rich and famous, this dream is often a reality. From Atlantic to Pacific and even right here on the Gulf, there are many celebrities who make the beachfront their (sometimes) home.
Lana Del Rey – The notoriously elusive superstar moved into a new home along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California – and away from Los Angeles to avoid her fans, who would often camp out in front of her home. The quaint home along the Malibu coast opens directly onto the beach, and at just under 3,000 square feet, is moderately sized in a region famed for its mega-mansions.
Rihanna – The “Love on the Brain” singer purchased beachfront property in her native Barbados in 2013. As part of the condo complex One Sandy Lane, this pseudo-resort boasts a number of 5-bedroom apartment homes, which is a part of some of the most expensive real estate in Barbados. It is a step up for the star to say the least, who has spoken openly of her low-income upbringing during her early years on the island.
Justin Bieber – The childhood sensation is all grown up now, having rented a massive estate on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2016. The cliffside mansion, known as Water Falling estate, comes complete with a helipad as well as a pool with a slide from a story above.
Celine Dion – One of the greatest selling artists of all-time, Celine Dion has the money to be a major player in real estate. Her 2013 listing of her estate on Jupiter Island, located on the Atlantic coast of Florida, exemplifies the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The estate, which sits on nearly 6 acres and occupies 400 feet of waterfront, is a virtual waterpark, with slides and lazy rivers dotting the property. Dion’s residency in Las Vegas was the catalyst for her to list this property at $72.5 million.
Oscar de la Renta – The late Dominican-American fashion designer was also known for his impressive pad in Punta Cana, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. The villa is cloaked in a garden featuring almost exclusively native species, using trucked-in topsoil, overlooking the sea below. Casa Eliza, a smaller house towards the back of the property, housed de la Renta’s guests and family.
Going to the beach is a great time, but living near it is even better. There’s a reason why the well off often spring for beachfront property – falling asleep to the surf and breathing the fresh ocean air invites a higher quality of life. Here in Texas, our beachfront property stretches from the old Victorian mansions of Galveston to the massive resorts of South Padre Island. As you hit the beach this summer, you too can live like a celebrity. The shores of Texas are rife with condos and houses that can serve as the starting point for your beachfront adventure.
