When you’re hitting the beach this summer, you should have every tool at your disposal to make your stay fun and worthwhile. After all, the beach is more than just a place to catch some rays and soak in the warm waters of the Gulf. We’ve put together some tips on how to spice up your beach visit whether its with friends or family:
#1 A DIY pool
Create your own beachfront swimming pool using an old shower curtain or larger trash bag. This way, you can keep the kids in the shade and within your view or create a place to soak your feet and stay out of the sun. Make sure to bring some buckets to fetch some water out of the ocean too!
#2 Cool, colder, cooler!
Make an impromptu beach cooler by digging a hole in the sand and bringing some ice. Especially if you keep this in the shade, it can provide a convenient place for drinks with your friends, especially if you run out of cooler space or don’t feel like lugging it down to the beach. Always remember, however, to never leave anything behind at the beach, especially waste.
#3 Freeze aloe vera into ice cubes to keep the sunburns at bay
The famous sunburn treatment that we all used as kids can also be brought in your cooler for on-the-spot treatment should you forget to put on sunscreen. The soothing properties of aloe vera along with the freezing temperatures should help to calm down even the harshest of sunburns.
#4 Dig a hole!
Get all of the benefits of the water without the sun by digging a canal from the beach to your little plot in the sand. That way, you can stay in the shade while keeping your feet in the cooling waters. Especially if you are on a quieter beach, this can usually be done without disturbing anyone, especially at high tide.
#5 Mark your spot!
Bring something only you will know, like a sports team’s flag or something unique and visible to mark your place in the sand.
Oftentimes, the same umbrellas and towels from the department store mean that there are a lot of similar looking beachgoers. Especially during the peak of the season during Memorial Day or the 4th of July, it is important to make sure that you are able to find your belongings!
#6 Pack a bag!
Bring a cheap backpack, or other container, to wrap and pack the stuff that you will be bringing to the beach.
When the beaches of Texas get especially busy during the summer, unattended items can often become the target of theft. If you bring a cheap or worn-out looking backpack or even wrap your items in something such as a diaper or a trash bag, you are far less likely to have something stolen, no matter how valuable the contents inside. However, you should always keep an eye on your belongings at the beach!
