Now that the spring is almost upon us, it’s time to discuss one of the greatest parts of going to the beach – relaxing by the water and listening to some tunes. Most people don’t consider how important your music choice may be when going to the beach, especially if you plan to blast it through a speaker. Your reputation might be on the line, making this season’s playlist of the utmost importance!

The first thing you need to think about before you head to the beach is what kind of music is appropriate. For example, though we fully supporting getting down to some Kendrick Lamar on your own time, you have to think about what kind of language will be broadcasted to everyone on the beach. With small children present, “Humble” might not be the best option.

Even if your music will not be playing on the speaker, you might want to think about what type of vibe you’re going for. If you want a nice, relaxing day, chilling on a beach towel with your toes in the sand, hard rock might not be your first option. Similarly, slow lofi might not be ideal for pumping yourself up for running on the beach. When picking your playlist or songs, be sure to consider what activities you have planned so that you are prepared for any occasion.

That being said, we have a list of definite “no” genres that we suggest you avoid. For example, we fully support blasting bubblegum pop, but screamo may not be the best choice. We also think some Hip-Hop or R&B tunes would be great, but it might be a little weird to spend your day blasting electronic swing. Of course, you know what’s best for you – if any of the above genres fit your mood, we totally support you rockin’ out.

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of songs that are great for any beach-goer. Whether you’re listening to them on the sand or need some music for the drive, these songs are sure to impress this spring and summer.

“No Fear” – Dej Loaf
This song is definitely one we recommend. It’s upbeat, happy, and with a uniquely positive message that fits any summertime romance.

“Mr. Brightside” – The Killers
Of course, we had to include this song on any summer playlist! Not only will this song hit you with a wave of nostalgia, but its upbeat backtrack is also perfect for any spontaneous dancing you might do.

“Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” – Mark Robinson, Miley Cyrus
We know that Miley Cyrus has been a little controversial in the past few years, but we think that this song is a total jam.

“Summer of 69” – Bryan Adams
This song embodies summer time – and not just because it’s in the name! This song is perfect for a drive on the beach or maybe even some sand volleyball.
